EV Maintenance: What's Real and What's a Myth

"EVs don't need maintenance" is a great line — and mostly wrong. Here's what your electric car actually needs.

EVs ditch the oil changes and the thousand moving parts of a combustion engine. But "low maintenance" isn't "no maintenance," and a few things actually matter more on an EV.

What you skip

  • Oil and filter changes
  • Spark plugs and timing belts
  • Most exhaust and emissions work

What still matters — a lot

  • Brakes: regen does most of the work, so pads can last longer but seize from underuse. They need inspection.
  • Tires: instant torque and battery weight wear tires faster. Rotation is non-negotiable.
  • Battery thermal system: coolant checks keep your range and battery life healthy.
  • Cabin filter: NYC air clogs it fast.

The catch: most shops aren't certified to touch a high-voltage system. Ours are. So you get real EV service without the dealer wait.
